Practices for the week of Monday, May 17th. As you can see from the times below, we are expanding the available practices and adding an older group. *** Rule 240(d) of the USATF YOUTH HANDBOOK - “Competitors MUST compete in their own divisions only. No athlete may compete in younger or older divisions in individual, relay, or team events.”
Age groups SA, A, & B may participate in three (3) events.
Age groups C, D, & E may participate in four (4) events.
Age groups SA, A, B, & C must participate in an individual event or a relay at a preliminary meet to be eligible for the state meet.
Spring time (late-April - mid-May) is always a busy one in regards to facilities. Jr. High, High School, and College track meets have always been events we need to work around. In addition this year, Central has fall sports with contact days practicing on the turf and Pella High is playing soccer games on the new field. We will need to be flexible until Central's school year ends. This week is especially busy, due to the Drake Relays.
So, we will practice this Wednesday starting at 5:30 - 6:30 at the Central track. We may move to an adjacent grass field if a spring practice breaks out.
We will practice all age groups together for now. Bantam - Midget / Youth. Basically 3rd graders through 6th graders. All 7th and above should be in school track. Parents, understand that as soon as we can split into age groups we will, but while the club is limited on practice facilities we will combine age groups.
I am planning another practice for Sunday afternoon, April 25th. I know Sundays are not ideal, but probably allow for the greatest availability for everyone. Also, Sunday afternoons would allow for age group specific practice times. I will send out age group practice times later this week.
I'm excited to get this season started. Please be patient while we get through this busy time.
Hurdlers: we will not be meeting today at Central College. See you this week at track practice! Run with proper technique at your meets this week!
