If order for a Pella Atletieks track athlete to participate in USATF state, regional and national meets, they MUST be members of USA Track and Field (USATF). So, if an athlete is a member of USA Triathlon (USAT) they would have to purchase a separate membership.
AAU memberships from any sport covers ALL AAU sanctioned events. So, if an athlete has an AAU membership from basketball or gymnastics, he/she does NOT need to purchase a separate membership.
The majority of club track meets in the state of Iowa are USATF sanctioned. Athletes typically do NOT have to have a USATF membership to run in these meets, however they MUST have a USATF membership to participate in the state, regional and national meets. If your child chooses to run in AAU sponsored meets, they MUST have an AAU membership number to enter.
There a few meets that our club attends that have no membership requirements: Panther Relays, Hershey's Track and Field Events, and the Summer Iowa Games.
No. The Pella Atletieks club fee pays for membership to the club only.
Athletes have the choice to be members of two national organizations. USA Track and Field and AAU.
AAU: If an athlete already has an AAU membership (say, through basketball, volleyball, baseball, gymnastics, etc.) they do NOT need to re-register for an individual membership. If athletes choose to participate in the Iowa AAU track and field meets, they MUST be a member of AAU and will need to present their AAU card at meet registrations.
You may register your child for an AAU athlete membership at:
http://www.aauathletics.org/index.asp?a=main/pg_membership.htm
USA Track and Field (USATF): Membership for USATF is slightly different. Some USATF-Iowa sanctioned meets will allow athletes to participate in their meets without being members of USATF. HOWEVER, if an athlete intends to qualify and run in the state, regional and/or national USATF Jr. Olympic meets, she/he MUST be a registered member.
You may register your child for USA Track and Field at: https://www.usatf.org/membership/application/index.asp
Pella Atletieks is designed to promote the sport of track and field. We intend to gear our club towards teaching sub-bantam to youth athletes the fundamentals of all track and field events. As athletes gain experience with competition, the club will begin to focus on specifics of the track and field events.
Practices and meets are NOT mandatory, but certainly encouraged as USATF-Iowa meets are very competitive. Athletes find their experience at these meets are more positive if they show up prepared and knowledgeable of what they need to do to perform their best. This requires consistent practice and training.
See homepage for practice times and skill emphasis.
No...club members can register for all events at the time of the sign-in at the meets. Cost for meets has run anywhere from $4.00 to $6.00 to enter. The only meet that athletes will need to pre-register for are the Hershey's Meet and the Little Panther Relays.
