USATF Regional VIII Championship Notes

The penultimate meet of the year (USATF Region VIII Championships) finished up earlier today. The USATF meet director and all of the volunteers hosted a successful meet at Simpson College. The Pella Atletieks athletes performed admirably over all four days, and each athlete should be commended on their performances; they represented Pella well! The 12 athletes competing in 19 events garnered 1 Region VIII champion, 2 second places, five 3rd places, and many outstanding performances and personal bests. Fantastic!

The official results can be viewed at the following website.

Unless any of the national qualifiers are planning to advance to Sacramento (contact me asap if you want to advance), this weekend will wrap-up the 2010 Pella Atletieks track season. It has been another great year. The increased interest in track and field is what we want to continue to see. It is enjoyable to watch new and young runners show up to practice eager to learn and set personal goals, and it continues to be satisfying to watch our veteran club athletes mature in to regionally competitive track and field athletes.

Can't wait until next season!

Practice Time Change for Tonight, July 2nd

It seems that several of the athletes from the last two days of practice will unavailable for practice this evening (holiday weekend). Therefore, I am going to cancel the bantam & midget practice. I believe all of those athletes are unavailable this afternoon. Also, I am going to shorten the youth and older practice to 45 min and move it up to 5:00. So, when all the changes are said and done, there will be one practice tonight from 5:00 to 5:45.

Practices for the Week of June 21st

After a successful State meet this weekend, the Pella Track Club will be taking the week off. All athletes who competed in the State meet qualified for the Regional meet in at least 1 event. I will be sending out more information to those athletes moving on to Regionals.
I am encouraging athletes to take a short break from the track. Stay active, but let's recharge are our batteries and come back next week ready to prepare for Regionals.

The US Championships are in Des Moines (Drake Stadium) this week (Wednesday through Sunday). This is a great opportunity to see some of the nations top track and field talent. I am sure tickets can still be purchased on-line or at the door.
