Congratulations to all of our club athletes that are advancing to the 2009 AAU Junior Olympic National Summer Games to be held at Drake Stadium in August! Pella Atletieks was well represented over the 4 day week, and numerous athletes missed qualifying in some of the events by just one or two places! Check out results and be sure to contact Eric if you are planning on competing at Drake in August.

Pre-AAU Meet workout for those competing.
First of all, don't think you have to try to cram any practices or more running into the week prior to the meet. All the work you have done throughout the summer is the work that will carry you through the meet. With the heat and close proximity to the meet any additional hard work will only tire you out unnecessarily.
So we want to work smarter. Work in the evening or morning when it is cooler
1. Warm-up
200m jog
10 toe touches
skipping 3 x 30m with different arm swings
4 x easy 30 yd build-ups to full speed.
2. Starts / Acceleration Work
4 x 30m starts
3. Technique Work
shot, long jump approaches etc
4. Speed Endurance
2 x 100m @ full speed for the midget and younger athletes
3 x 150m build-ups for the youth and older athletes.
No practice heat due to heat. I will post a possible workout later this afternoon.
Great job to all who competed this weekend. First real test of running in the heat and against good competition. I was proud of all the Pella Atletieks runners and jumpers. You represented the club in fine fashion.
This week will be tough to schedule too many practices. The AAU National Qualifier Meet begins on Thursday here at Central. So, the track will be unavailable to all non-competing athletes. Your support of your fellow club members would be greatly appreciated. You will have to pay to get in, unless you want to volunteer to work.
As of this time, Monday afternoon, I am not scheduling any practices. The heat advisory does not make conditions conducive to a safe practice. If the weather changes, I will post information by noon tomorrow (Tuesday). If the heat continues, I will post a workout to the website that athletes can do on their own. The best thing you can do for your athletes is keep them rested.
Contact me with questions.

Today (June 22nd) is the last day to register on-line for the AAU National Qualifier to be held at Central College June 25-28th. Please use the link below to finalize your entries. REMINDER: You must pay by credit card to complete your child's registration, so make sure you have that info ready when finalizing your entry.

Eric will post practice time later today.
We have a few parents that have not paid the club for their USATF state meet entry fees. Cost was $30.00 per athlete and checks should be made out to Pella Atletieks. Please bring payment to the next practice or send to Eric @ 1010 Monroe Street, Pella, IA.
The Summer Iowa Games Youth Track and Field Meet will be held on Saturday, July 18th in Nevada, IA this year. Early on-line registration ends on June 29, 2009. All athletes are limited to 3 events and entry fee cost is $20.00.

For those of you planning on participating in the National AAU Qualifier meet to be held @ Central College June 25-28th, it is important that you register your child ON-LINE by June 22nd.
http://www.coachoregistration.com/cgi-bin/login.pl?cd=nq_iaaau
You must register ON-LINE and Pella Atletieks will not register you like we do for USATF meets. Remember: You must be a member of AAU to run in this meet and you will need your AAU ID number to register on-line. If you are not currently a member, you can sign up at: http://www.aauathletics.org/index.asp?a=/main/pg_membership.htm
You will also have to use the Pella Atletieks Track and Field pin # to add your child to our roster...that number is 1885. Make sure that you select the ADD ATHLETE button to start your entries. Once you submit payment for your child's events, you cannot change your mind. So carefully look at the schedule of events (I have attached them) and plan what you want your child to participate before you go through with payment.
Those of you who have offered to volunteer for either Thursday afternoon, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Eric will contact you this week. IF ANYONE would still like to volunteer time to help at this meet, I am sure the AAU officials can find something for you to do! :) We won't ask any one to do anything like time or officiate an event, so no worries if you are not saavy with track and field rules. We do not ask club parents to work concessions, so also not looking for that either. We may ask a couple of folks to help us out with taking $$ at the gate and if anyone has friends in town that wouldn't mind helping in this department for an hour, that would be swell. Otherwise, jobs might range from helping rake a sand pit, to helping spot and mark the field events, to setting up hurdles.
If you have questions before you register, do not hesitate to contact us. We can help you through the on-line registration process if you need assistance. It can be a bit tricky to navigate through.
This is a pre-race week (USATF State Meet) so practices will be shorter and more specific. Also, I am combining age groups due to lower attendance numbers.
